Libby Oberlin is an award-winning Bay Area actor, stage director, and educator who has been treading the boards since the ripe old age of six – smitten from the very start. A long-time performer with San Francisco’s premier immersive theater company We Players, Libby has wowed audiences playing tyrants, queens, clowns, and ingénues, as well as her Theater Bay Area Award-nominated performance of Capulet in Romeo & Juliet. You’ve seen her on stage at Shotgun Players, The Mountain Play, Landmark Musical Theater, Shakespeare & Company, and Sonoma Arts Live, where her portrayal of Maria Callas in Master Class earned her San Francisco Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Award nominations for Principal Performance and Best Overall Production.
In New York City, she has performed with Soho Repertory Theatre, Provincetown Playhouse, Abingdon Theatre Company, ARS Nova, and American Theater of Actors. NYC television and film credits include The Manchurian Candidate, 30 Rock, a bevy of indie films, and Laid Off, Winner of Best Comedy at The Garden State Film Festival.
As a stage director, Libby has worked with 6th Street Playhouse, Sonoma Arts Live, Jacobethan Theater Workshop, and Jack London State Park, where she co-wrote, produced, and directed The Storyteller, an immersive production about the life of Jack London.
Libby was the Founding Artistic Director of The Theater School, a non-profit educational theater studio working with hundreds of young performers in full stage productions, musicals, school tours, camps, and studio classes. She has taught for Google, Throckmorton Theater, Sonoma Arts Live, Girls Leadership, The Performing Arts Academy of Marin, and in many New York City and Bay Area classrooms.
Libby holds a master’s degree in educational theater from New York University and a bachelor’s degree in theater from Hofstra University; has earned educational theater and directing certifications from Shakespeare & Company, The University of London, and The University of Puerto Rico; and she’s certified through Dueling Arts International in small sword and hand-to-hand stage combat.
Of all the fabulous jobs and incredible characters she’s played throughout the years, Libby’s very favorite role is being a partner in art and life to Miller and being a mom to her daughter, Maeve.
